In March 2024, Classic FM selected Philipp Schupelius as one of the 30 most exciting young musicians in the world. The award-winning young cellist has already thrilled audiences as a soloist and chamber musician on numerous European stages. He is passionate about special concert formats, themed concerts and combining different art forms into one concert experience. He is currently studying at Kronberg Academy in the class of Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. His studies are made possible by the Sodalitas patronage. In August 2023, Philipp Schupelius won the German Music Competition in Bonn. The prize includes a CD recording on the Leipzig label GENUIN. His debut CD recorded at the Beethoven Haus in Bonn: "Pau! A Tribute to Casals" was released in September 2023, in which Philipp Schupelius musically explores the world of ideas of the cellist of the century and peace activist Pablo Casals. Philipp Schupelius was honoured with the "Discovery Award" of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) at the age of 17. In October 2022, he received the Boris Pergamenschikow Grant and in the same month the Fanny Mendelssohn Prize. He was also honoured with the First Great Award of the Manhattan Music Competition at the end of 2021 and the Silver Medal of the Eurovision Young Musicians Contest in 2022. He is a multiple first prize winner of Jugend musiziert. Philipp Schupelius will be a debut artist at the Nikolaisaal in Potsdam in the coming season. Philipp Schupelius was honoured to learn from exceptional musicians, first and foremost, of course, from Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, whose student he has been for six years. Before that, he was taught by Ulrich Voss. He received important advice from Justin Pearson, Daniel Hope and Anssi Karttunen. His participation in the Menuhin String Academy in Gstaad with Ivan Monighetti in 2018 was also essential, and he was able to work in masterclasses with the late exceptional cellists Lynn Harrell and Wolfgang Boettcher, among others. He also received lessons from Jens Peter Maintz, Daniel Geiss and Frans Helmerson as part of masterclasses. Philipp Schupelius made his debut in 2017 with Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations and the Bergische Symphoniker; the concert was broadcast by WDR. Since then, he has performed as a soloist and chamber musician on numerous European stages. In autumn 2023, he played the commemorative concert to mark the 50th anniversary of Pablo Casals' death at the Beethovenhaus in Bonn. He has performed with Daniel Hope (violin) and Philip Dukes (viola) at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, among others. In 2024, Philipp Schupelius will premiere Fazil Say's work "For the children", composed especially for him and percussionist Leon Lorenz, at this festival. The Hoelzer v. Borcke Music Foundation has supported Philipp since 2020, and he was also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and the Jürgen Ponto Foundation. He already received a scholarship from Kronberg Academy in 2018. Since October 2021, he has been performing with pianist Ron Huang for Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now, Berlin.
